Friends, meet our Son Chris and his Bride to be, Ms. Jennifer Scott. They were recently engaged about 5 weeks ago in Houston, Texas and we are all looking forward to their fall wedding in Savannah, Georgia
This is a really fun story, and I hope all the parties involved don't mind me taking the liberty to share it. So, without further ado, let's move back in time to when we were taking Chris back to Morgantown, WV for his junior year at West Virginia University.
After living on campus his freshman and sophomore years, he couldn't wait to move off campus. On this trip, we were moving him into a rather 'low rent' apartment not far from the old 'Mountaineer Field house' where I can recall seeing Jerry West play as a Mountaineer back in the late '50s. I was a very young, but remember going there with my father. Years later, when I was in high school, I remember the State Basketball Tournaments being played there, these were years before the current coliseum was constructed.
As we were moving Chris and his belongings into the new 'digs,' I remember a few co-eds moving in several doors down. Over the course of the afternoon, I remember meeting one of the young ladies, Beth. She had commented that she was from Harrisonburg, Virginia, and I used to spend a lot of time in Harrisonburg on business, so at least, we had something in common.
Like most college juniors, Chris was anxious for Mom and Dad to get back on the road, so he and his roommates could get on - getting on.
Several weeks later, I recall Chris calling to let us know that he had blown out his ankle playing football up on the turf behind the 'Lair.' He assured us that he was doing fine. His new friend, Beth, was a student trainer on the Mountaineer Football Team, and was taking good care of his ankle.
From this point, the story moves forward a year or so; Chris decided to return to Georgia and attend a junior college near Athens, GA. This would allow him to be close to many of his high school friends, as well as being part of the UGA football scene.
The following year, he transferred to Georgia State University. Bear with me, this is where this story gets really interesting.
One afternoon, Chris was having lunch and cramming for his next class. As he sat there, a face across the way looked very familiar, but he just couldn't put a name to the face. As time for his class approached, he had to walk directly in front of this young lady that, for whatever reason, he felt he knew, but couldn't place. As he walked by, a voice says 'Darden' and immediately he turned and recognized his friend Beth.
She had completed her undergraduate degree at WVU and was attending Georgia State to complete her Master's in Physical Therapy.
Chris and Beth enjoyed each others company, attended several sporting events and WVU Alumni Sports Events, but long story short . . . Beth had a classmate . . . and yeah, you guessed it, her name is Jennifer. Beth and Jen both completed their Master's in Physical Therapy.
Barbara and I remember the very first time we ever met Jen. It was during the pre-game tailgate of the Sugar Bowl when West Virginia and Georgia were matched up in the Georgia Dome. Although it's been a little over 4 years, I remember the day as if it were yesterday. Chris and Jen soon started dating, a courtship that led to their recent engagement in Houston.
At Chris and Jen's recent engagement party, I shared with Jen . . . "Hey girl, you had me from hello."
So, as we rapidly approach the date of their wedding, I continue to be amazed by the circumstances that led to Chris and Jen meeting in Atlanta, GA.
* If Chris does not attend WVU and go back for his junior year, he does not meet Beth ~
* If Chris does not transfer to Georgia State, he never sees his friend Beth again ~
* If Beth does not attend Ga State for her Master's, Chris and Beth never hook up again ~
* If not for his friend Beth, Chris never meets his lovely 'Bride to Be,' Jennifer Scott ~
Our families are both very excited and looking forward to Chris and Jen's Wedding in Savannah, Georgia.
Thanks for allowing me to share this lovely story.
Chris and Jen ~ We love you ~
P.S. Chris, if any of these dates are slightly off, forgive me. I have a great memory, it's just not long enough anymore.
